South Africa: BIEC
· type: construction, evangelism
· level: 3 & 4
· medical/political climate: low risk
MTW missionaries at Bible Institute of the Eastern Cape have requested assistance from short-term teams to help in the following areas:
Mission Team (two weeks): to help with a week-long evangelistic outreach in Central Port Elizabeth. The initial week will involve a concentration of prayer during the afternoons, as well as sightseeing and leaflet distribution to prepare the area for the mission week. The second week will involve street evangelism, open-air meetings, door-to-door evangelism, restaurant evangelism, etc. Tentatively scheduled for August.
Maintenance and Building Teams (two weeks): help is desperately needed to replace gutters, part of the main roof (iron sheets and rafters) and the iron roof of the outbuildings. An electrician, plumber, carpenter and painter are needed to work on the interior of the outbuildings. A team is also needed to build a stable, wooden structure for some of the students who are currently living in a flimsy one-room shack.
Marketing Research Team (two weeks or longer): suitably qualified people are needed to research the possibilities of setting up a labor-intensive business to provide part-time work for the BIEC students and those graduates whose churches are not able to adequately support them. The business, ideally, should be set up by someone with the necessary experience, expertise, and money. Such a person would need to run it until it is established, as well as train a local manager. This will enable graduates who need to do "tent-making" to start their own business, train their members, and then be able to concentrate full-time on pastoral ministry.

Teams will be doing a variety of construction, youth and children’s work, community ministry, evangelism, and leadership development. Team members will stay in the homes of missionaries or South Africans.
Although the project is during South Africa’s winter, temperatures are usually mild. Dress should be modest, but comfortable, with dress clothes for Sunday worship.
Immunizations: An up-to-date tetanus shot (within five years) is required. Malaria medication only if individuals are planning to visit a game reserve (Johannesburg only) during their free time.
South Africa: Student-Y
· type: evangelism
· level: 3
· medical/political climate: low risk
This project is done in partnership with the Student YMCA. Unlike the YMCA in the United States, this ministry is solidly evangelistic. Our purpose is to create contacts for the Student-Y staff to follow-up with evangelism and discipleship.
Locations: Capetown and Johannesburg
The teams will be primarily involved in an evangelistic thrust on the campus. There will be special meetings, Bible studies and opportunities to form relationships with the students. Also important is encouragement for the students presently involved in reaching their friends and classmates for Christ.

Teams will serve alongside our South African ministry partners. "Building Legacy" is a key theme of the World Cup - to not just see the city, but to build a lasting legacy after the final game. Based on Isaiah 61:1, four types of teams will be structured - Evangelism, Soccer teams (Semi Pro, University, and High School level), Counseling, and Service (mercy). Teams will stay with local church families. Two week to two month opportunities are available.
For more information about any of these projects, contact the One to Two Week Department at 678-823-0004 or 2wk@mtw.org.
